Nollywood actor Rotimi Salami has revealed how his physical appearance became a major barrier early in his career, leading to repeated rejections from movie producers and deep personal pain.

In a candid interview on Feelrightnews TV’s YouTube channel, the AMVCA-winning actor shared the emotional toll of facing discrimination based on his looks. He explained that despite travelling long distances to auditions and showing consistent dedication, opportunities remained scarce.

“For three years, I only got one role,” Salami recalled. “It wasn’t easy at all. Some producers straight-up told me they couldn’t cast me because of my face and body. They said roles usually go to people with more muscular builds.”

The repeated rejection left him traumatised. “I cried,” he admitted. “Hearing that my appearance was the reason I wasn’t getting roles hurt deeply.”

The constant sidelining eventually pushed him to step back from acting for a while and return to school to further his education — a decision he now sees as a turning point that strengthened him both personally and professionally.

Salami’s story highlights an ongoing conversation in Nollywood about casting biases, body standards, and the pressure many actors face beyond talent. Despite the challenges, he has since built a respected career, proving resilience can outshine rejection.
